Diskcheckup is a unique software that is designed for the measurement of performance of your S.M.A.R.T. hard disk drive. S.M.A.R.T. means Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology. This software can measure the performance of your S.M.A.R.T. enabled hard disk drive. SMART is a feature on your computer hard disk drive that provides the various monitoring indicators. The system administrator can receive analytical information from the hard drives if the SMART is enabled on it and can determine whether the hard drive is going to face some possible future failures. The new software Diskcheckup does its job by comparing the current hard disk drive attributes to the TEC (Threshold Exceed Conditions) that had been predetermined by the manufacturer of the drive.
The Diskcheckup is very useful for its task as it not only can monitor the current position or status of the hard drives, it can also track day to day changes to the attributes of the hard drive that may lead to an extrapolated prediction of the possible future hard drive failures. The program is so user friendly and efficient in its job that it can be configured to notify the user if the TEC has been crossed. Several means of notification systems can be employed for this purpose like email, desktop notification etc.
The Diskcheckup itself can execute some special form of operations in your hard disk drive. It may do some Disk Self Test (DST) routinely implemented by the vendor for the detection of drive failure. This is an in built tool that comes with the software application. This routine self test primarily of two types, one is Short Test and the other one is of Extended Test type. The results of these two different tests are displayed on Diskcheckup wizard. The Diskcheckup also displays some information about the device includes drive geometry, serial number etc.
